CHOIR

I run two regular choirs in Totnes; Dartsong Chorus and JamJar Choir.

Dartsong Chorus meets at Totnes Methodist Church on Totnes High Street every Tuesday from 7:30 to 9:30 PM. We are auditioning for the Spring Term in early January, please send me an email if you'd like to come along.
Dartsong Chorus is united by a commitment to creating beautiful, powerful music. This new choir with deep roots evolved from the renowned Glorious Chorus.

The JamJar Choir is a fun, vibrant and welcoming community choir, who meet every two weeks at The Angel on South Street in Totnes from 6.30 to 8 pm. We are a drop in choir, and there are no auditions, just come as you are.

Please book your place below.

We sing harmony songs from all over the world; pop, gospel, world music and modern choir compositions all learned by ear. I’ll be weaving in vocal and choral technique and CVI (Collaborative Vocal Improvisation).

Book JamJar

JamJar is a drop in choir, all are welcome.

I was brought up around the wonderful world of Community Choirs. Somewhere between the voice camps, community singing days, and performances, I fell in love. Many of us who long for a sense of belonging, connection, and a way of relating with others that is harmonious and non-hierarchical, have found this in choirs and singing communities, and I feel very blessed to have been given the skills to hold these spaces.
I believe that learning and singing harmony songs both gives us a taste of our potential for shared beauty, and creates a container for embodied resonance, giving us an experience of non-hierarchical creative collaboration. In my teaching I weave in the fascinating world of vocal anatomy and useful tools to free the singing voice.
I’ve joined and supported on a number of choir-leading courses with the Natural Voice Network, and trained in vocal technique with AOTOS (The Association of Teachers of Singing). I studied Bulgarian Singing with Dessislava Stefanova as part of my Ethnomusicology degree from SOAS, as well as learning Classical Indian Singing over a number of trips to India. In that strange way that time works, I’ve somehow been leading voice sessions and choirs for coming up to 15 years, and I love it.

Qualifications

BA Ethnomusicology from SOAS, accredited CPD Teacher Development with AOTOS (Association of Teachers of Singing), 2 teacher trainings with the NVN (Natural Voice Network), Facilitation Training with the Open University, year long CVI (Collaborative Vocal Improvisation) at the highest level (3/4).
